Church of the Living Word

A First Fruits of All He Created
By Matt Walkoe   June 4th, 2017

At the Passover preceding His death, Christ told His disciples, “Unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit” (John 12:24). This prophecy was fulfilled at Pentecost when Christ, the first fruits of those who sleep (1 Corinthians 15:20), caused His Spirit to be multiplied and rest on His disciples as, a first fruits of all He created (James 1:17-18, NIV).

We, in this fellowship, have experienced this spiritual principle in the life and death of our spiritual father in the faith, John Stevens. Stevens had many wonderful prophecies over his life, but he refused their fulfillment as an individual. He insisted that those prophecies be fulfilled in a ministry that many would participate in. And so Steven’s mantle of the Living Word was passed on to this fellowship of people. This is a responsibility we must faithfully carry, as we imitate the faith of the one who led us (Hebrews 13:7-8).

To function in this ministry requires that we become a spiritual people. We develop spiritually in much the same way as we would physically: eat the right things; avoid junk food; exercise daily; focus on the goal; eliminate distractions. To develop spiritually, you must feed your spirit with God’s Word; exercise your spirit through prayer and worship; and focus on His Kingdom. If you seek first God’s Kingdom, He will enable you to accomplish the other things that you must do in your life. But if you focus on your own problems and circumstances, you will be distracted from the Living Word that is leading you.

God prophesied over John Stevens that “Zerubbabel laid the foundation of this house, and his hands will finish it.” As the fruit of John Stevens’ ministry, we are his hands as we help one another to fulfill these words of prophecy. The Living Word lives in us, and we, as living epistles, are to be known and read of all men. This is a call to action. We must continue to be the first fruits of all that John Stevens created.
