Travail That Changes the Age
By Matt Walkoe   July 30th, 2017

One of the greatest examples of intercession in the Scriptures is Hannah, the mother of Samuel. Elkanah, Hannah’s husband, loved her deeply, but the Lord had closed her womb. God shut Hannah’s womb for a purpose. He was drawing a deep intercession out of her. Like Hannah, we have waited many years for fulfillment. However, we need to sense that no matter what is happening to us that may seem to be negative, God is still loving us and looking out for us.

If you do not feel God’s love for you, or you do not understand what is happening to you, it is easy for discouragement to come in. We need to be a people of love rather than a people of understanding. If you know someone loves you, you trust them, even if you do not understand what they are doing. Trust that God loves you, as you walk with Him, He will eventually show you what He is doing.

We could look back at our years of intercession and say, “We’ve been at this a long time and nothing seems to happen.” But God has been driving this travail deeper and deeper into our hearts. Often when God does not answer your prayers it is because He is positioning you for a greater answer than you would receive otherwise. The answer will manifest when your intercession reaches the depth that He is looking for.

What Hannah went through was not easy, but her travail kept getting deeper and deeper. As a result she ended up giving birth to the prophet Samuel and dedicating him to the Lord. God was not just giving Hannah a son; He wanted to change the whole spiritual world of that day. Samuel was more than just a child who met Hannah’s need, Samuel was a prophet who changed an age.

We are in a similar time. Do not give up on any of the Words that God has spoken to your heart or over us as a people. Rehearse and refresh those prophecies. We are not just looking for some little answers or fulfillments; God is calling us to travail and give birth to a school of prophets, the one thing that He is going to use to change this age.

Scriptures: I Samuel 1:4-8; Romans 8:28; Philippians 4:6; (Proverbs 3:5); (Micah 7:18); (Psalm 100:4); (I Samuel 1:20).
