Church of the Living Word

A Lifestyle of Worship
By Jeremiah Gruenberg   January 28th, 2018

God has been speaking to us about coming into a deeper level of worship. A new level of worship comes from a deeper relationship with the Lord. What we can have in an expression of corporate worship does not depend upon new music or better sound quality. It begins in the spirit with the relationship that each one of us has with the Lord. Jesus said to the woman at the well, “You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:22-24). This is speaking of a worship that is beyond any center of religious expression. The true location of worshiping in spirit is in our relationship with the Lord, who is a Spirit.

We cannot worship what we do not know. Relationship is the lens through which we will see true worship. Every love relationship begins with an awareness of the other person, and a desire to be with that person. We receive our ability to love the Father from Jesus, who grew in His awareness of the Father by the Holy Spirit. We can become more aware of Him in every part of our day, in every part of our lives. The more you live in that relationship with the Holy Spirit, the more any resistance within us will come down. Begin with thanking Him for everything He has given you. Before long, you will find your heart melting with a new ability to receive His love for you. True worship is giving Him all that you are.

You may think that it is difficult to maintain a focus on the Lord. But what do you have that you have not received (I Corinthians 4:7)? The Holy Spirit will give you everything that you need to open your heart to Him and sustain this new level of worship. Everything that you do in your life can feed into this awareness of Him and expand your ability to love and worship Him with all of your heart. The greatest commandment is “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind” (Matthew 22:37).

All the law and the prophets, the entire Word of God, hang on this commandment (Matthew 22:40). Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of all the Word, and He makes a way for you to live in that same close relationship with the Father. It can begin with a step of spending more time with Him. The Holy Spirit gives you the ability to live in a lifestyle of worship that gives the Father what He wants. He loves us so intensely, and this can become a continual reality that pervades every part of your life. Lord, change my life to be a complete expression of worship to You.
