Purim: The Power of God’s Love
By Matt Walkoe   March 4th, 2018

We recently celebrated the Feast of Purim, commemorating the deliverance of God’s people as told in the Book of Esther. Purim is a joyful time, recognizing that God is eternally faithful to move on behalf of those who love and worship Him. As we conclude this time, we believe to find a new experience of God’s powerful love and care for us.

Just as King Ahasuerus loved and chose Esther, so God—the King of the Universe—has loved and chosen us as His people. Before the foundation of the world, in love God chose us and predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ. Esther underwent a year of personal preparations before she was presented to the king. In the same way, God has been purifying and beautifying His people to become His bride. The second experience that Esther went through was the threat of destruction to her and her people. We have definitely dealt with this experience as well. However, if we make either of these our focus, we could miss the heart of what God is really doing.

When Esther went before King Ahasuerus to intervene on behalf of the Jewish people, she received an outpouring of the king’s love that empowered her to move in the authority that ended the threat of destruction against her and her people. In the same way, God tells us to come boldly before His throne of grace (Hebrews 4:16). We must realize that He is calling us to enter His presence. There we will be overwhelmed by His love. Though clouds may sometimes veil it, the power of His love is constantly being beamed toward us.

God’s love for us cannot just be a doctrine or a theory. We must not only have the knowledge of His love, we must have an unshakeable belief in that love (1 John 4:16). God’s love is the answer to the threat of destruction. Satan would kill all of us if he could, but God’s love is stronger than that threat. No weapon formed against us can defeat us if we experience God’s love for us and have His love in our hearts for one another. Going forward, let’s enter into God’s throne room, receive His love, put on His signet ring, and rule and reign with Him!
