Church of the Living Word

We Prepare to Hear an Apostolic Word
By Matt Walkoe   July 22nd, 2018

Next week we will have the privilege of having the apostolic fathering ministry of our fellowship, Gary Hargrave, visiting us. We want to prepare for his coming and create an expectation for it because we believe an apostolic word has the power to change us. What is an apostle? Simply, one who is sent. The way to identify an apostle is that when they minister, you will not see them, but they will reveal the one who sent them, just as Christ revealed the Father, the One who had sent Him.

Apostles and prophets are the foundation of the Church. Everyone who hears the apostolic word and acts on it builds their house on the rock of Christ, the chief cornerstone. The apostolic ministry is given by Christ to the Church as the agency to equip the saints and bring them into perfection. They also bring us into a deeper understanding of what God is doing in each generation. His purposes never change, but He unfolds His Word in a deeper way in every generation. Paul talked about the mystery of the Gospel, he realized that what he saw in God’s plan to include the Gentiles had previously been hidden, a mystery. As an apostle, Paul was raised up to reveal what God was doing in that age.

Apostles are messengers of the Lord. They speak a living Word. We are called The Living Word Fellowship because we have had a living Word spoken in our churches for over sixty years. The living Word was first spoken by our founder, John Robert Stevens, and when he died; he passed that mantle on to Gary Hargrave. We have had such a privilege to sit under these apostolic ministries that God has raised up. We pray for the apostolic ministry because it is furthered in the earth by the release that comes through a people. An apostle cannot stand alone. To release an apostle is to release the apostolic anointing on those that are raised up to be the seal of that ministry. An apostle’s freedom comes because the deposit of the living Word that they speak is manifested in a people that are the seal of that ministry.

“We have this treasure in earthen vessels” (2 Corinthians 4:7). Apostles are not super-human, however, they are the voice of God’s Word to the Body of Christ. Expect nothing more of them than that they are free to move as a vessel of God. Then that same anointing can be duplicated in our lives and Christ can flow through His Body. God is bringing forth His Kingdom in this generation. If you want to be an expression of God in the earth today, keep listening to and acting on the living Word that is coming from the apostolic ministry. Have an open, hungry spirit that prays, “Lord, reveal Your Word to me, write it on my heart.” Then God’s Word will become a force in the earth to change this age.
